RESEARCH AND GRANTS
RESEARCH:
CULTURAL AWARENESS
Four General Stages:
Blindness: We are only aware of our own culture, and unwillingly stepping on others' toes
Sensitivity: We are aware of the differences, but still there is a chance of stepping on others' toes
Competence: We are aware of different cultures and beliefs, and we might adopt some of them
Proficiency: We are aware of different cultures and beliefs (Consciously/unconsciously): Adopt, welcome, and become cognizant of other viewpoints.
Consciously: Accepting cultural differences takes time and doesn't happen overnight, and requires training
Unconsciously: Accepting culture comes naturally because of growing up in that environment or being trained since childhood
SOCIAL JUSTICE
General Principals:
Access: Access regardless of Age, Gender, Ethnicity, etc.
Equity: Fair distribution of resources
